In her words

“I don’t see therapy as fixing something that is broken.”

I’m Sangi Carter, an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with a particular interest in the connection between our emotional wellbeing, relationships, nervous system and body. My approach is warm, grounded and collaborative. I believe therapy is not simply about understanding our thoughts, but becoming curious about the patterns, emotions and physical responses that shape how we experience ourselves and the world around us.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked as a physiotherapist for over 20 years. This gave me a deep appreciation of the relationship between physical and emotional health and how stress and unprocessed emotional experiences can sometimes be expressed through the body — through tension, fatigue, pain, overwhelm or disconnection. My own experiences of burnout and health challenges further shaped my interest in working with the whole person rather than separating mind and body.

My psychotherapy training is integrative and attachment-based, and I also draw on somatic and nervous-system-informed approaches. Somatic work allows us to gently notice what is happening beneath the words — physical sensations, tension, impulses and emotional responses that may be difficult to think or talk our way through. Alongside talking therapy, I may incorporate movement, breathwork, meditation and body awareness to help you explore and process experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, trauma and attachment wounds, low self-esteem, grief, life transitions or simply a sense of feeling stuck or disconnected. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what needs to change. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, understand yourself more deeply and recognise patterns that may once have helped you cope but no longer serve you.

I don’t see therapy as fixing something that is broken. For me, it is about reconnecting with yourself, developing a greater sense of safety and understanding, and creating space for change. Sometimes that happens through conversation; sometimes through the body, our relationships and the patterns we have learned along the way. We work together to find an approach that feels right for you.
